extraordinarily helpful & pleasant ... rooms were small, but so well appointed, one didn't mind at all. The hotel was so perfect, I will definately go back, the next time in Amsterdam. ... In spite of an aparent personal problem at the Hotel, the check out was very efficient. ... Smoke free, and excellent. Charming lobby area, and a most helpful staff.

The directions were spot on and on arrival the hotel looked small but very warm and welcoming. The young man at reception couldn't be more helpful and everything was all in order. ... The rooms like all big city hotels were small but modern and very clean. They had a mini bar which I like, not for the alcohol, but for the water and soft drinks supplied. However, there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms but this is just a preference of mine as I love a cuppa on arrival, especially after a long day travelling. There was a great choice for breakfast and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. It's a nice cozy hotel where you feel that personal touch. ... Very well organised, check out was quick and painless. ... Maybe you should state that there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. ... I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel. I would describe it as a warm, clean hotel with good facilities and very friendly helpful staff. I would say it was in a great location within walking distance of Leidesplein and only a short tram ride from Dam Square.

In general good, only one fact disliked to me: the check in time fixed not early than 2 pm and plus worst an additional waiting time of half hour. Best regards Helga ... Small and pretty hotel in a quiet area with town centre to walking distance.

The web site is absolutely accurate. We expected to enjoy the accomodations and we truly did. It is a gem of a hotel. As quiet as you can find in Amsterdam -- or any major city. And wonderfilly clean and well-appointed. ... Exceptional value for money. ... The perfect place to stay for lovers of classical music. ... A jewel of a small hotel in a true resindential neighbourhood that gave us the feeling of living in Amsterdam rather than 'touring' it -- convenient to what we most wanted in the city -- the museums and the Concertgebow with excellent brasseries, etc, close at hand and run by a family of taste and refinement who are models of hospitality.

It is easy to navigate all of Amsterdam from the Hotel Van De Kasteelen. Tucked on a quiet street in the museum quarter we received kind help from the staff concerning directions and transportation, restaurants, and local art museums. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A clean, cosy hotel on a very good location (within walking distance to the museums and the Conzertgebouw, quiet, nice staff (run by a family - you notice it, it is personal and they feel responsible for you to have a good stay there). Small rooms but you don't care because it's cosy and it has a balcony. The price is more than ok for what you get! We recommand it to everybody.

The owners were friendly and very accommodating. The room was just perfect and it was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. There was nothing at all that we could complain about as everything was excellent. ... A bit pricey but worth it!

very hospitable and professional - exemplary in fact ... excellent ... comments about the quiet and residential nature of the locality could perhaps be stressed more but also how convenient it is as regards access to major interest areas - also good very restaurants locally ... good value. exemplary and hospitable service, very good locality - but need tram to get from station - spotless

For a longer stay I would prefer better wardrobes, they were perhaps too small. ... A pleasant family hotel near the Museumsplein, with clean and spacious rooms, and a very helpful service during the breakfast. Beautiful atmosphere with nice low music at breakfast time.

I arrived 10 minutes before check in time and the room was not ready. I was told it would be ready in half an hour but when I came back 40 minutes later it was still not ready - and I had to wait another 15 minutes. Everyone was very polite but it was rather inconvenient. ... Lovely place to stay. Wonderful breakfast. Very pleasant atmosphere. Spotlessly clean. ... As above

It was all very efficient and put you at ease. ... The reception is not 24 hour and as we had to leave around 6:45am in the morning to catch an early flight, the staff weren't up and about. They had advised us to sort out the bill etc the evening before as they knew we were leaving early, unfortunately we had spent the whole day out and arrived back around 10pm, but there was no-one about. We felt a bit guilty having to get the owners up, but it wasn't a major problem. ... As well as the continental breakfast, they always offer eggs and bacon should you wish it, which is a nice touch. ... A lovely well kept hotel, with great breakfasts and an elevator! Located in a quiet and historic area of Amsterdam, but with convenient transport to the livlier areas.

Very accomodating as we arrived in the morning and we immediately got our room.Eventhough check-in was at two pm. ... Next time we'll get a larger room which they showed us while we were there. ... Ideal location, so close to the museums and concert Hall, the Vondel Park and the Leidse Plein. ... Highly recommended

Great reception. Very polite and professional. ... Very peaceful and quiet while still being close to areas of interest. ... It is the best place to stay in Amsterdam. Great staff. Delicious breakfast. It is on a quiet residential street. It is made safer with swipe card access to the front door. Yet it is still within walking distance of great places to shop (retail and street markets) and the most popular museums. For those with a sweet tooth, there is an incredible patisserie right around the corner.

The hotel shuttle driver couldn't find it, despite us having the directions from the website. ... Very clean and tastefully decorated. the room was peaceful, with no passing traffic. ... Again, the shuttle bus failed. reception booked it, but it never appeared. they made amends by booking a taxi and pre-agreeing a good price. ... Peaceful, spot on for a romantic break.

The Hotel Van De Kasteelen is a lovely hotel. I had a very pleasant stay there. The room was spacious and clean. The staff were very helpful and the brekfast buffet was very good. It's well located near the major museums and only a short tram ride to the city centre. I'd highly recommended it.

Picture with Orchids on web site is not representative for the rooms of the hotel. So my expectation was higher than the simple small room I got. ... small and familiar hotel in the museum district at fair price.

Very pleasant. I was shown to my room and everything in the room was explained to me. ... Hotel was extremely clean and well maintained, imaculate even. Facilities very good safes in the room, nice tv with satelite. ... staff were very friendly and helped me with directions to the south station rather than going back through the centre to central station. ... Hotel is in a quiet area which is good if you want some peace. Lots of restaurants nearby. Near to good transport links. They provided a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day. As a single traveller stay was very good as I was charged for a single room with a single bed. I did not feel that I was being overcharged. I would definately go back there again. ... An excellent, reasonably priced hotel that is imaculately clean and comfortable, where you can cacoon yourself after a day of beating the streets sightseeing.

Considering it was dark and cold outside in January, we were very relieved to have clear directions to the hotel and a helpful person in reception to check us in and offer advice on local restaurants. ... Breakfast buffet is continental but a hot breakfast (eggs & bacon) are also offered to each guest at no extra charge. ... Located in a clean, safe neighborhood about 10 minutes away from central station, the hotel is cozy and comfortable, basic amenities are provided, and the staff is friendly and helpful. We will happily stay there again!

Everyone was very pleasant and helpful, always greeting us with a smile. We arrived quite early and the owner let us into our room to freshen up before we went out for a light bite. When we returned, our room was ready for us to take a nap. This was very appreciated!
We would definitely stay at this hotel again...and recommend it to others. ... Quick and easy...and the hotel had the taxi waiting for us! ... Everything seems to be covered...there were no surprises either way. ... Yes

We arrived at the hotel at 8:30 AM and were graciously allowed to check into one of the rooms early(we had originally wanted them to hold our luggage). In addition, my 3 traveling companions and I were offered complimentary breakfast that morning although check in was later in the day! ... Staff offered excellent dining suggestions and directions. Hotel is convenient to canal bus and museums. Nice and quiet and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on in a hotel. ... Staff held our bags after check out and reserved our cab. We were also allowed to divide the bill 4 ways with no hassle. ... As most hotels provide shampoo, soap and lotion, I was surprised to find none available in the room. This would be worth mentioning to future guests. ... Quiet, family owned hotel located in a residential area. Excellent service. Not part of the hustle bustle of Dam Sq., but close enough to visit.

a nice house in a calm and central neighbourhood where normal ducth people live. ... I thought the garden would be greater. But that's no real problem ... You should mention that it is a non-smoking hotel. Smokers may like to know that in advance. ... nice, friendly, small hotel. Very good located.

Very personalized, friendly and helpful. ... Being family-run they were helpful with directions to local restaurants and ideas and generally very pleasant. ... We actually left very early in the morning and had failed to make arrangements, but had previously used our credit card for the accommodation one night a week earlier so it seems they managed to finalize payment that way as we had authorized them in a commitment note. #12 I think there was some minor tax in addition to the price quoted but I am sure that in Canada that is additional as well. ... A bit noisier than anticipated as it is close to major streets but having come from the Netherlands countryside this might have been more noticeable. Very good location both because of being close to several tram routes and in a neighbourhood that was not all the 'centre tourist destination' area. We could walk to a concert at the Concertgebow!as suggested by a friend who had stayed there. ... Great location, lovely surroundings especially the little garden lounge area; good breakfast and nice to have a balcony onto the typical Amsterdam street.

Only problem was that we arrived at 3:00 (published check in time)but were told that the room would not be ready until 5:00. No explanation or apology was offered. We managed to entertain ourselves, but if we had been tired, the delay would have been a major inconvenience. ... 1. The room was very nicely decorated, extremely clean and quite (upper floor on back side of hotel overlooking the garden). The disadvantage was that both the room and bathroom were tiny. We had 2 twin beds that were actually cot sized (at least they had great mattresses), a very small desk holding the TV and not much room to walk between these. 2. Public areas were lovely, breakfast was fantastic. ... Not specific to check out, but there were a few times during our visit that we had questions for the staff and either couldn't find them, or left a message and didn't hear back. When we were able to ask questions, the staff were helpful. ... This hotel is in a great location near museums and restaurants. It has been recently redecorated and is lovely. The sleeping rooms are tiny (at least ours was), but very pretty, clean and quite. Don't miss the breakfasts, they are great.

too much noise - people coming and going from other rooms, talking, and the lift could all be heard easily - not enough sound insultaion. was there for business for 2 days - breakfast only started at 8 - too late to get to office meetings on time ... left before breakfast - no one in sight ... breakfast starts at 8 ... friendly, quaint but noise from corridor
