Travelling
on personal vehicles around Amsterdam is quite complicated, therefore usually
the use of public transport is recommended. However, if you need to take a taxi,
you should feel lucky if you are able to hail one on the street. Otherwise, there
are taxi ranks outside Centraal Station, the bus station at the junction of Kinkerstraat
and Marnixstraat, Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein, among other stops. Taxis in
Amsterdam are identified by signs on their roofs and blue license plates.
Taxicentrale
Amsterdam also provides a 24 hour service: to get one you should call the switchboard
at 020 777 7777. If you or anyone with you uses a wheelchair (which do not fit
in cabs unless they are folded), phone the car transport service for wheelchair
users (+31 (0)20 6333943) and book your journey in advance (usually one or two
days before).
Amsterdam's waterways
can also be enjoyed in water taxis, which can be booked in advance.
