in Amsterdam:
The international
dialling code for The Netherlands is +31. When calling a city in Netherlands,
dial the international code, followed by the city code. For example, to call Amsterdam
from outside Netherlands, dial 003120 followed by the phone number. When calling
from within the country, you should skip the international code. For e.g. to call
Amsterdam, dial 020 followed by the number.

Public telephone booths can be
found all over the Amsterdam City, at squares, station, post offices etc. You
can call from these using cash, credit card as well as specific phone cards. Coins
are rarely usable. You insert the cash, and make the call and any balance is refunded.
There are several kinds of telephone booths. These booths are affiliated with
specific telephone companies so you can only use their cards from these booths.
You can find some Orange and grey coloured booths near the railway station. These
are affiliated with Telfort so you can call using Telfort cards from these booths.
This card is easily available at ticket offices, railway stations and GWK. Phone
cards can also be purchased from Tobacco stores or Post Offices. Some card come
with a KPN logo and can be used from a green phone booth (run by KPN Telecom).
If you have a prepaid calling card, these cannot be used from these phone booths.
These are best used from fixed land lines. There are also a few phone booths that
accept credit card only.
