The main post office in Amsterdam
is located at the corner of Raadhuisstraat at Singel 250. The main office is extremely
busy but also quite efficient. Apart from post, parcel and sale of stamps, post
offices offer maps, self service fax machines and directories. All post offices
have a branch of the PostBank where you can effect banking operations. You can
also buy telephone calling card at the post office.
Telegrams can be sent from
post offices for a basic charge plus a extra charge per word . Please call 0800
0409 for more information.

Sending
Mail - You can buy the stamps at the Post Office, Tobacco stores or Tourist Offices.
If the packages need to be weighed please go to the post office, otherwise you
can use the easily recognisable mailboxes. If your mail is for outside Netherlands,
please use the "overige bestemmingen" in the mailbox.

This
is a system where the office will retain mail for the client, for a limited period
of time, till he claims it. The letter or package needs to be addressed as Poste
Restante, along with the full name of the client, and address of destination post
office. The client can claim this package by showing his passport for verification.
