The staff were extremely polite and friendly. I visited amsterdam the month before this visit and stayed at another '3 star' hotel for roughly the same price and couldnt believe the difference in staff and cleanliness of the singel hotel I will be definatly be staying there again

fantastic hotel staff.we arrived early and although we only had to wait about 10 minutes we were asked if we wanted a cup of coffe or tea.a fantastic start to our 4 day break.

this hotel is fantastic.we've stayed in amsterdam 3 times and this was the best by far.staff couldn't do enough for us and the loan of the umbrellas was much appreciated.this hotel is central to everything and about a 10 minute walk (with heavy suitcases) to central station.we asked for 2 canal view rooms and were accomodated without question.we will be recommending this hotel to everyone we know as the staff give it their personal touch which you don't get in the bigger hotels.

Rooms are small by American standards, but the location is great. Easy walk from the central train station, overlooks a quiet canal. Plenty of restaurants and shopping within the area. Very clean, with nice buffet breakfast. Staff very helpful, fluent in English.

We were asked to pay, infull, for our stay, without the opportunity to see our rooms first. We had to insist on getting keys to the rooms, and going ourselves to see the rooms. In fact, we asked to change one of the rooms as the original was very small with a tiny double bed.
It seemed odd to be asked to pay €1500 without even seeing the room!

There are no square or rectangular rooms in the entire hotel. It's a bit disconcerting!

We requested a smoking room but on arrival was told because it was fully booked up we couldnt as only the top two floors were smoking rooms,which was a disappointment.

the shower in our room had no basin so the water filled the bathroom very quickly and almost leaked on to the bedroom carpet, this was a bit weird but maybe just a holland thing?!

The hotel is mostly non smoking, it is a good location from centraal station, we walked it with heavy bags in under 5 mins.
The breakfast is pretty bland and would reccomment saving the extra money and going to the cafe on trhe corner for a much more refreshing meal!

very basic, dated decor and basic facilities, slightly over priced because of this as we stayed in much nicer accomodation in leidspein that was really not as much money called the rookies a smoker friendly hotel!!
though the location was good for a first night in amsterdam as was close to lots of nightlife,

Traditional hotel with lots of character and excellent location for the centre of the old city. Delightfully quite at night despite the central location.
Location on the upper end of the Single made arrival very easy by rail.
Good value as breakfast was included. Breakfast buffet was rather better than expected with a good choice.

The staff was very accommodating and polite. I didn't really have directions to the Hotel with the exception of it being 500m from the train station. It was a bit confusing with the construction around Centraal Station so it took me a bit longer to find the hotel.

Although the room was extrremely clean as described, I must say the hotel was very 'worn' as described on another web site (tripadvisor.com); Walls needed repainting, trim needed repainting, furniture and rugs were chipped and threadbare, holes in walls needed patching. The room we were in had a bathtub plug that was perpetually closed and would not remain open. However, the breakfast buffet was top notch and one couldn't eat better at a 4 star hotel.

This is my second stay at the Singel, and I find the people warm and friendly, the place safe and well run, and overall a wonderful small hotel in Amsterdam. I prefer it to the larger Renaissance just behind the Singel. My experiences at the Singel have been great, and I hope to stay there again in the near future.

the people at the hotel were very polite and very helpfull the room was very clean a bit small but it was nice the only thing that was a bit dissapointing was the shower was right next to the toilet so if there was someone on the toilet you couldnt get a shower because the toilet got drenched wen you had a shower apart from that it was an enjoyable stay

We did not need that kind of rush, but we were impressed with their flexibility and willingness to help.

My room was not ready until 2:30, instead of the published 2:00, but the hotel staff was willing to store my bags from 8 a.m. until then, so I was grateful for that. I was also a little nervous about leaving the key at the desk everytime I went out, but it was really no big deal and overall I felt safe based on my interactions with the staff.

Since I booked my reservation late I think I had the smallest single room in the hotel. But it served my needs and it was clean and I had clean towels and a clean room everyday. Everyone was polite and I got some helpful information from the people working at the main desk, who were there 24 hours a day to help. There was breakfast in the morning but not much food that I was interested in. The rooms for 2 people that I saw were much bigger than mine, but for 1 person who didn't want to be in the room much anyway, it met my expectations and my needs. Also, compared to other reviews I read about other places, Singel definitely rates highly in comparison.

The location is ideal for getting off the train at Central Station and walking to your accommodations. It is a quiet hotel, so don't expect to party or be loud or smoke, but I think it's better to have a respectful place to sleep and party out in the city anyway. I hope the rates stay reasonable because that was another attractive quality about the hotel.

Hotel was clean and convenient. Nice hot shower and the most comfortable beds. Location was perfect. One the edge of the Red Light district, but still a quiet street. Room was SMALL, but this is in keeping with most other Amsterdam hotels. Elevator was a plus and breakfast was modest, but very good.

Our only disappointment was that the shoe shine had been used before we got to the room and the customer satisfaction questionaire must have been there for weeks and covered in coffee stains!
The temperature was difficult to set in the room as there was no opening window and it was either too hot or too cold. However, the guests who accompanied us did not have this problem as they had an opening window in their room.
Other than that, and choosing a different room to stay in, we thought that the Singel Hotel was ideally situated and the staff very pleasant. We would return!

There are no snacks available at the hotel but you can purchase snacks from shops a short walk away.

Lovely clean rooms, the bar wasn't what was expected it was more like a shelfing unit that had spirits on but you could buy beers and soft drinks aswell and could sit in the breakfast room to drink. Would go back again to this hotel if I visited Amsterdam again.

The rooms on the side of the building have absolutely no view whatsoever, since the house next to it is only one meter away. Well, it is Amsterdam of course.

It's clean and reliable, but lacks in atmosphere. It's not especially cosy or warm-hearted, but it is a quality standard place in the center of the city. Very good location.

My only complaint would be that the room allocated to me was very small, the bathroom I could not even stand up in due to the sloping roof, but overall for a 1 night stay it was fine, especially due to the location and the staff

The location of the hotel was good, close to the popular shoppingstreets. However, there were three 'massage bars' next door with half naked girls in the windows....
We ordered a twinbed room (two separate beds),but got a doublebed room.

However, this room was very, very small and with no locker. Almost impossible to get the luggage out.

There was a problem with the shower in the bathroom. There was no basin at the bottom of the shower and water did not go out quite quickly - after one shower the bathroom was full of water and we had to wait to be able to have another shower (we were 2 people in 1 room).
The floor of the room was not horizontal so that we had our heads in the bed lower than legs - I personally did not mind but my husband could not sleep very well.

The bathroom the beds and the privacywas not up to the standard I was expecting from the price that I paid. The plug in the bath was broken and would not come out.The pipe under the sink was so badly broken we could not use it and kept the bin underneath it to catch the excess water.This lead to us using the bath to brush our teeth in but the plug was broken which lead to more difficulties as you can understand. We were not informed of this before paying for the room so we were unprepared. Also there was no facitily to book a room with a double bed during the booking process. Upon our arrival we were informed that we had a room with two singel beds, pardon the pun, which we pushed together but they kept moving apart which lead to one of us waking up on the floor in the middle of the night which was not that much fun.

You have to go downstairs to go to the reception hall and the stairs are very slippery when raining, which is very dangerous. The stay can start directly at the hospital...

I've got room 36 on the third floor. Room which is very dark as the wall of the other building is at less than 1 meter away from the room window.
The cleaning staff is very loud, shouting in the lobby from as early as 8:00 AM. For people which are willing to sleep it is hardly possible.

It is possible to leave your luggage for the day if you leave Amsterdam later in the day. Very comfortable, the train station is only 5 min by foot!

The location is outstanding in the heart of the city, on the Single canal. A few meters away from bus and tram station. Great.
Breakfast should be excluded as it its served between 8 and 10:00 AM. During my stay we stand up too late for that!

We had a room at the back of the hotel and it was in near total darkness at all times of the day (without the lights on). There was some construction work going on at the back of the hotel and at times in the mornings it was possible to hear the builders working - this was not condusive to a relaxing stay.

The bathroom was poor. There was a hole in the floor for the shower, which was right next to the toilet. Terrible for the price, and I think it was rated 3 stars. That was a joke, but I do understand the different standards in Europe.

Let folks know that the bathrooms are poor and rooms are very small. We had three rooms and one of the couples stayed in a room that they had to climb over the other person to get out of the bed.

I would not even take the time to describe it. I would tell them to go elsewhere. The area is loaded with hotels. I would try another hotel in the area.
Fans should also be proved for the rooms, to get the air moving.
