The
reduced parking spaces and intense traffic make Amsterdam the best city to know
by foot; however, its many beauties and landscapes turning out at the end of the
corner are the main reason why strolling is in fact the best option. In addition
to this, take into account that most of the attractions at Holland`s capital,
are within walking distance of each other, so be prepared to exercise!
Conscious
of these facts, the Amsterdam VVV (Netherlands Tourist Board) has designed many
walking routes which are established on maps for every tourist visiting the city.
Each of these pre planned tours will show you around different sections of Amsterdam,
from its shopping streets and the Jordaan district with its abundant foliage and
flowers, to its many canals and "hofjes".
The
route booklets provide a number of street maps to guide you along routes indicated
in dotted lines: you may find them at many bookstores, at the Holland Tourist
Information desk at Schiphol airport, or at the four VVV offices in Amsterdam.
The latter are located on Stationsplein across from Central Station; at Leidseplein/corner
of Leidsestraat; at Stadionplein; and on Platform 2 at the Central Station. The
brochures can also be bought at "Guidor, Nederlandse Gidsen Organisatie".
