rooms were very clean and nice except for squished bugs on the walls ... they let us keep our bags their for the rest of the day after we checked out which was very helpful ... if they can handle walking up very steep stairs; the hotel is really good value for money, friendly, clean and in a good location

Although everything with our stay was fine, we found that the room was situated in a rather noisey area eg, next to reception and the front door. It was very noisey when people were coming to and fro, and also checking in at reception. Other than this the hotel was quite adiquit at reasonable cost, and in a very good central area for trams, shops, night life. Staff were also pleseant and polite. I would most certainly stay here again. In all probability this will be in September 04, but on different floor.
Best regards
Mr & Mrs Renton ... Although wwe found the hotel to be nice, the room we were allocated to was in was very poorly situated. It was right next to reception and the front door, where we could here poeple coming and going, and the staff when they were on the telephone. The hotel was clean and tidy, reasonably priced, in a good central position for shops, trams and night life. I would almost certainly stay at the Crystal again. In all probability this will be in September. ... There were no problems on checking out, the staff were very polite and helpful. ... Ground floor double/twin room in a very noisey position. ... good value for money, but do not ask for room number one as it is situated in a very noisey area of the hotel.

The only problem we had was that the staff wanted to pre pay our room from the first day.Never met something like that before.Of course I paid one day before leave. That was a little bit strange.

great directions, easy to find ... the hotel was great, location fabulous. However, one member of our party was elderly and had problems walking. He found the stairs too steep and tiring. A 1st floor room would have suited him better. ... excellent. We had breakfast early. A very comfortable taxi was booked for us and arrived promptly. The driver was very helpful. ... I spent a happy 5 days in Amsterdam with my uncle and my four teenage children. We really enjoyed our stay in the Crystal hotel, the the staff were helpful, the accomodation was good and location was great. Within easy walking distance of good resturants, coffee bars and public transport. My only complaint was the stairs. However, I do realise the hotel was a traditional Dutch building and they weren't really a problem to the majority of my party. ... yes, definately!!

Nice people, allthough it was strange to see that the mayority were not speaking Dutch (was of no problem but strange). ... The price is quite high for the type of room we had. Our room was located next to the entrance and reception and it was open 24 hours a day. Therefore we had a lot of problems sleeping because every time somebody entered the hotel we were awakened. Also we could here the recepcionist talking with these people who entered and we could here every telephone call. This all for the price of 80€ a night. For me this is very expensive. ... Friendly hotel, quit expensive compared to the quality of the room (and breakfast), good location, so close to het Leidseplein. Rooms nothing special but very clean (very important).

The hotel doesnt have a lift and we had tons of luggage and the steps were really steep like in all of Amsterdam. The receptionist shifted us to the first floor ! ... The toilet sounds can be heard from the adjoining rooms.
The beds are made up in a hurry guess they dont really clean the rooms daily. ... The Manager insisted that we pay in cash which was not informed to us at check-in. So we had to go and get cash ! ... Steep Steps and no lift, so insist on lower floors if you have luggage. Preference for cash. ... Central and good but nothing great

Although there were no directions published online, I recieved some very clear and useful directions from the staff via email on request. ... The hotel is in the center of Amsterdam, very close to all of the main attractions which can easily be found on foot - but it is in a quiet area. ... Friendly staff, quite clean rooms, good value, very convenient for touring the city.

Probably would not have been happy if we had been staying another night or two because the water heater was broken so there was no hot water on the morning we checked out. But that was a unfortunate occurrence. ... Very convenient location. Pleasant staff. Adequate breakfast. Nice building--be prepared for lots of steps. Would probably stay again.

The reception staff were unable to tell me where to catch a bus to the airport. They were unaware that you can take the 370 Bus from the airport to Museum Plein. The booking was in order and it was quick and easy to check in and to pay. ... Involved handing back keys and remote. All payment was done during check in. ... The main comment is that if you are on the top floor it is very difficult to carry your suitcase up. There should at least be someone to help carry bags. The stairs are very steep and narrow. An elderly person would not be able to stay on the upper floors. There should be an emphasis on this when booking. ... well positioned, quiet, clean.

The receptionist was one step short of surly, one of the beds in our room wasn't made up, and there were insufficient towels left out. I asked that the bed be made up, but when we returned to the hotel that evening all that had been done was that the bedding had been left on the unmade. This bedding included 2 double sheets, unfortunately the bed itself was a single. Additionally, rather than paying by credit card, I was asked to pay in cash which involved having to go to a Bureau de Change and the additional charges incurred.

Considering this was the first time in Amsterdam, I was unaware the hotel had no lift. Our room was on the third floor, and the stairway was very narrow and steep. The gentlemen at the reception desk kindly offered to carry our luggage. ... The bedspread was not as clean and had stains. The full size bed was really (2) two twin beds connected together and each bed had the sheets individually tucked with a full size bedspread over the (2) two beds giving a view of a full size bed. The rooms on the website looked very nice and comfortable unlike what I had experienced ... The rooms should look cleaner, as stated above, the website had a beautiful room pictured. ... To be prepared to walk up the steep spiral staircase and not to expect the rooms to be very clean.
