Prior to making the reservation I asked if the sleeping beds were going to be the bunkbeds like the ones in the photos or just regular single beds. I was told they were going to be single beds, So I made the reservation I was required to pay in full for the stay prior to seeing the room, the room I was asigned were just as the photo Bunkbeds (not what I expected) . There is also no Air Conditioning so windows must be left open to the displeasure of street noise from nearby bars and mesquitos biting during the night. The building also does not have an elevator so if asigned a room on the 3rd floor one must carry everything up 4 flights of stairs.

for the beds, noise, and bug bites I felt I would have been better off staying in another Hotel but since I had to pay on arrival complaints go unanswered. I will never stay at a Hotel that require me to pay in full prior completing my stay.

No Air Conditioning, No screens so one should bring bug spray or deal with misquito bites. Earplugs may have helped with the noise level.

It's in a very well lit, wide open square far removed from the commotion of the seedier areas. However, the hotel is a short walk to anywhere (10 minutes to anywhere you need to go) and has an Atm 10 yards away and a bar and coffeeshop right next door. The bar, Mikey's, is one of the greatest finds in Amsterdam, by the way.

In a city of sin and anticipated danger it was wonderful to have a warm, clean, and welcoming sanctuary to retire to. The staff was friendly and the sandwiches provided were a blessing none of us expected. A++.

The owner/proprieter greeted us on arrival and treated us to a cooffe on the house and discussed the hotel, the rules, and the city and its highlights, and answered all of our questions. She took her time, we were not rushed, she was very welcoming and helpful.

It is located in an area with a lot of nightclubs and consequently slightly higher than normal noise levels.

The accomadation was'nt exactly what we expected,but giving the fact they are renavating areas in the hotel,it was clean and tidy,and I would certainly stay there again for its excellent location and homely and very polite staff. A++++

hotel seemed really reluctant for us to pay by credit card when offered as method of payment and asked for cash.

no tea or coffee facilities in your room so i suggest taking back bottles of water etc. also no fruit juice available for breakfast but plenty of water.

check out was at 11.00am, even so we had a knock on the door at 10.30am!!
on the plus side though they us leave our bags there until we left for the airport at 8.00pm

City Hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and I would have no hesitation in reccomending the hotel to my friends. The accomodation was clean and sizable and the all round service was excellent.

I have worked in 4 and 5 stars hotels and stayed in many hotels in Holland and in Europe. What really impressed me was clearness of hallway, bathroom and room. Congratulation. The stuff is very friendly and has good sence of humor!!!! I know it is impossible (or think about it) but i think guests of hotel suppose to have a little discount on parking place. I know it is Amsterdam but.....

The person at reception on arrival, Simon, was great. Gave us clear information on the hotels facilities(in room safe, breakfast buffet, etc.) and policies(leaving room key at reception, 24 hour staffing, etc.) He also was a great source for tips on restaurants, tours, and transportation. The entire staff was friendly & helpful.

Due to hotels location on the Rembrandtplein, street noise from passing revelers could be loud at times. No fault of hotel. No noise from other rooms.

Good value, great location, easy waking distance to everything in our opinion. Rooms small, but clean and comfortable. Great breakfast buffet. Not a 'cookie -cutter hotel' but with a real local feel to it.

As there was a party of 6 girls we had booked 2 triple rooms, on arrival the lady at reception said we could have the 'Penthouse' which sleeps 6 with two bathrooms. On agreeing to this we went up to our room which only had one bathroom! 6 girls on a hen do, one bathroom?? impossible. We asked the lady again and she said sorry nothing I can do I have rented out your original rooms now, this was in the space of 10 minutes? I feel we payed over the odds for this room.

Perfect location, excellent pub directly below serving lovely food. The only moans I have is too many stairs! not enough bathrooms. In need of a better selection at breakfast.

Wonderful hotel. Even more wonderful staff. I stayed there in a group of 14 other people, and the staff did a great job of accomodating our large group.

The only issue was the lack of elevator. We were 15 students so it was fine for us. I would not recommend to the elderly or those with disabilities. Great breakfast. Safety measures taken by hotel to protect us were greatly appreciated.

Definately due to the good photographs that reassured us of the quality of the hotel and the fact that the City hotel e-mailed us back very promptly which allowed us to make a booking for 2 adults and 2 children including a cot.

As above, we had a very good stay in nice and clean accommodation. There was a nice clean travel cot and linen for the baby, clean towels etc after every nights stay and a high chair in the breakfast room. The staff were helpful and kept milk and yogurt in the fridge for us and were welcoming of our 2 daughters.

Lot of stairs for people with disablities or elderly and for buggies. The staff allowed us to keep our buggy at the reception/bar area which meant we didn't have to take it up any more stairs. Saying this I am aware that all accommodation in Amsterdam has steep stairs!

Simon (who checked me in) made me feel extremely welcome and pleased that I was staying at City Hotel.
Our room was a very large room and would have accomodated even more people (had we wanted that!)
Emmanuel even helped carry my one of my bags up to the 3rd floor.
Then John came into the room and 'inspected it' to make sure that there were no issues with the room.
The next morning I mentioned to John that the front door needed oiling and by the time I returned from breakfast, it was corrected.

The staff continued to be pleasant at all times. The breakfast buffet was fine and suitable. The room had been painted fairly recently and was clean and very large. The location was spectacular.

The location which is Rembrandtplein is absolutely central and has excellent transportation links to Central Station.

Amsterdam is a very expensive City at the current time so getting good value for your hotel dollars is difficult. The rate arranged by WorldCom was at least 30 percent better than the rate that was quoted by the hotel to people inquiring by phone - so I know we got a GREAT Deal by going through WorldCom.
The location of the hotel was excellent. Close enough to walk to most of the places and within steps of the tram.
The rooms were extremely large and clean.
The bathroom with shower and toilet was a little underlit. There was plenty of hot water.
Be prepared to walk a LOT of steps to get to the room. We were up on the 5th floor.
The breakfast is a somewhat typical Dutch breakfast buffet with plenty enough to eat.
The hotel staff (and in particular Simon) was very gracious and helpful.
I'd definitely stay there again and you MAY notify City Hotel about our experience.

The accomodation received was ideal. I was expecting a four bedroom room, though what i received was great with 2 seperate bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge area and a nice size bathroom.

We really enjoyed our stay in the hotel, we did find the breakfast a bit disappointing & 1 of the females on the reception desk was quite rude but overall it was a lovely, clean hotel in a very good location & i would definitley book it again.

I would describe it is a lovely clean hotel, the room was a good size, the bathroom was also a good size. The staff were mostly very polite & there was a nice atmosphere in the hotel itself among the other guests. It is in an excellent location, within walking distance of the nightclubs & shops.

Check-in is possible from 1 pm. Upon earlier arrival, it's no problem to leave luggage at the hotel (no extra fees), go for a walk and come back later.

Good choice for couples, groups of friends and solo travellers. Could be a little less expensive (but that holds true for Amsterdam in general). However, all facilities and services were perfectly fine, and the central location of the City Hotel is definitely a big plus.
Because of the location at busy (and noisy) Rembrandtplein, it's advisable to bring earplugs.

The room was too hot to sleep despite the fan, it was a noisy room and not as clean as I would have expected for the price. There was also a strong smell of cigarettes in the room and stairwell. I would say it was below average.

Found a hotel review site via Google where previous clients posted negative feedback concerning the staff and the fact their room had been broken into. This worried me prior to the visit but on arrival found security excellent with main door being locked at all times and only opened to residents. Also CCTV covers outside of hotel and stairs to accommodation. Staff seemed very pleasant.

Our own ignorance was the only difficulty regarding the long thin buildings, we didn't think to ask whether the hotel had a lift. The stairs, a great many of them, were a bit like a loft ladder and came as a shock to the two of us as we live in a bungalow at home!
