| This
area lies south of the Leidesplein area, a few kilometres south the train station,
and has several interesting sights and is fast becoming a popular destination
amongst tourists. One of the most popular attractions in the Oud-Zuid is the
Museumplein also called the Museum Square. This square is considered
as the cultural centre of the city and is a magnet for art lovers. The square
is surrounded by several interesting museums that Amsterdam is so famous for.
Here, you can visit the Stedelijk Museum,
or the Urban museum, a modern art museum showing several recent works of art.
You can visit the Rijksmuseum which is a national art museum. It has several
works of art and crafts from the Dutch Golden Age (around 17th century).
This museum houses the famous "Night Watch" by Rembrandt as well as
several works of arts of his students as well as works of Jacob van Ruysdael,
Frans Hals and Johannes Vermeer. |

certainly must visit the Van Gogh Museum located at this
square. This museum boasts of the largest collection of Van Gogh's
work in the world and has several works of arts of his contemporaries as well.
The museum square also home to the classy Royal Concert
building called the Concertgebouw. This famous concert house, with
excellent acoustics, is considered one of the three finest concert halls in the
world.
The Museumplein area has undergone
some restructuring recently, and is now a popular park as well. It has a wading
pool near the Rijksmuseum, which is converted into an ice skating rink in the
winters. There is also a skate park. The square
hosts several celebrations and concerts during Queens's day and the Uitmarkt periods. |

in this area, you must visit the Albert-Cuyp market, full of stalls along the
Albert Cuyp street in the neighbourhood of De Pijp. These stalls sell several
things ranging from fruits and vegetables to cosmetics and drapes at very fair
prices. The De Pijp is a district where a wide range
of people from all walks of life, feels at home... artists, writers
and night workers alike. This area has several pleasant pubs and is considered
